Hobbies on the Fence

What do our youngest students love to do?

HSP artists turned their answers into five colorful artworks on the playground fence.

How We Created It

A little information

A lot of imagination

Curators' Statement:

To begin our project, the class explored various examples of data art to understand how information can be expressed visually. After this research, we formulated a survey question designed to gather data from the K/1 students. Next, we conducted the survey with the children to collect their answers. Finally, based on the votes we gathered, we selected meaningful icons to represent each topic. Upon discovering that doing one cup per vote was not enough, our class decided that each vote would be two cups to make their icon.

Special thanks to the kindergarten and first-grade students for sharing their favorite activities and to their teachers for helping us gather the responses that inspired our artwork!

Meet the Curators

Jovelio and Zoe created the two signs that introduce the installation and explain the results. Their handwritten words and drawings help visitors connect the artworks to the students’ answers.
