It’s hard to believe the holiday season is almost here! Because November and December are both shortened months, we’ve combined this update to include all important dates and information through the December break. Please note that although the schedule spans two months, you only need to attend one conference and submit one set of work samples, either in November or December. As a reminder, students should upload their required work samples to the “November/December Work Sample Assignment” in Google Classroom at least one day before their scheduled conference.

Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum

 

Our Moreland Home Study students struck gold on this week’s visit to the Quicksilver Mining Museum! Park Interpreter Colter Cook led an outstanding program that brought the history of New Almaden to life through hands-on activities and vivid storytelling. Kids and parents alike were captivated as they learned how mercury and gold were extracted during California’s mining era.🪙

HSP Gingerbread Village Project

​

Our HSP students are designing and building a Gingerbread Village this December! Each team will plan and construct a themed district — Modern, Historic, Town Square, Train Depot, Neighborhood, Woodland, and Alpine — using gingerbread, royal icing, and candy “building materials.”

 

To make this possible, we’re adjusting our regular schedule so that the Gingerbread Village project will replace the morning science class on build days. Morning-only students will still take part in the design and building portions and will benefit from contributing to this larger collaborative project.

 

Families are invited to help by signing up below to contribute candy supplies. Please add your family name, select a category from the list, and note the specific candy and quantity you’ll bring. 🍭 All candy donations are needed by Friday, November 20, so we can prepare materials before students create their district design blueprints on December 4.Thank you for helping support our student designers and builders in this creative, hands-on project!
